Owen and Berrie are not only struggling to fight this cancer physically and mentally, they have had many financial challenges. Numerous medical bills, which as we all know are not completely covered by insurance, have mounted up. In addition to the traditional treatments, they have chosen to fight with alternative medicine which is not covered by health insurance This included an initial investment for the devices to comply with the Gonzalez Regimen (like the water purification system), and monthly costs of the supplements, vitamins, special enzymes, etc. and buying organic foods.

They also hope to go to the Integrative Medical Center of New Mexico in the fall for 2 weeks for an additional treatment (to complement the regimen he is on now), the cost of which will also not be covered by insurance. The cost of treatments, travel, hotel, car, and meal expenses will be significant.

This website is run by members of the Smith family. All donations received through this site go directly into the Owen's Fight Fund which was created to support Owen's recovery efforts.

What does public awareness mean to the pancreatic cancer community?  Raising awareness can move federal research dollars and change public policy.  It can lead to more funds raised for research and patient services.  Awareness of PanCAN's PALS program can give hope to those currently battling the disease.
